The PROACTIVE social hike schedule for September has been announced and we are pleased to be able to offer both an evening hike and a weekend hike this month. Our first three social hikes held in August were all exciting and everybody involved had a great time! We hope that many more of you will have the opportunity to join us this month!
To register for a social hike, visit the home page and sign up to be a site member ("log in" link is located under the banner). Once you are a member you will have access to the events page, our store, and will receive exclusive content and offers.
High Mountain - 9.11.18
When considering our hikes for the month of September, we wanted to observe Patriot's Day and honor the memory of the events of September 11th, 2001.
On the 17th anniversary of the of 9/11, we will be hiking at twilight for the first time to the vista on High Mountain to take in a view of the NYC skyline on the horizon and see the Tribute in Light beams shooting high into the sky as it goes dark.
Although bittersweet, we will be celebrating our freedom and patriotism while honoring the memory of those who lost their lives in the attacks and all of those who have had lives lost or altered due to the years of subsequent war. (If you purchase a Proactive t-shirt through the link at the bottom of our website, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Wounded Warriors project).
Ramapo Torne featuring Russian Bear - 9.25.18
We always want to offer the best views and an interesting trip to them. The view from Ramapo Torne is arguably the most spectacular view in all of Harriman State Park.
Not only will we hike to the summit of Ramapo Torne, but we will also visit another excellent location as we make our way to Russian Bear.
Along the way, we will come across a number of impressive cliffs and traverse many very cool rock scrambles that should make this not only a chance to take in amazing landscapes and views, but it will also be a great workout for all.
Undercliff Trail - Bull Hill to Breakneck Ridge - 9.30.18
This is our first (of many more to come) weekend hike. Breakneck Ridge is the most popular hiking location in America. So, when it came to choosing hikes for this month, we decided to include it on our schedule.
However, we always aim to do things a little differently. Instead of climbing the face itself, we will be starting at Bull Hill (another of the most popular hikes in the region) and making our way along the Undercliff Trail to Breakneck Ridge.
Also, by this time, the fall foliage may be coming through and we may get the chance to enjoy the myriad of colors brought to us by Mother Nature.
