The Hudson Palisades - The 75th anniversary of one of the most ambitious, bold military landings in history, D-Day, called for something to commemorate the occasion. We found that High Tor was of strategic importance in not only the Revolutionary War, but also as a air raid station during World War II. The views from High Tor & Little Tor are both impressive with quite a bit of the Hudson Highlands rising in the distance.
There was also a Broadway play named after High Tor. The play is from the 30's and is about a man's decision to sell his land, High Tor, to a quarrying company. Evidently, High Tor is haunted by the ghosts of Dutch sailors who inhabit the summit after being shipwrecked. Unfortunately, we did not encounter these spirits during our social hike.
