[VERY HARD] The second edition of the Beacon Bully is an out-and-back route that traverses the Beacon Range of the Hudson Highlands in its entirety. Beginning at Route 9D in Beacon, Participants will use the Wilkinson Memorial Trail to make a long approach to Scofield Ridge before tagging Bald Hill, Fishkill Ridge, Lambs Hill, the Beacon Reservoir, North Beacon, the Beacon Fire Tower, and Sunset Point in succession. The route will conclude with a direct descent down Breakneck Ridge. Participants will receive a Beacon Bully Strenuous Series patch upon successful completion of the event!
This route will make several heavy ascents and descents ranging from 300 to 700 feet. Steep scrambles will occur at points throughout the event. The final mile of Beacon Bully is marked by continuous, 1,100-foot descent to the Hudson River -- presenting technical scrambles, slabs, and cliff exposure. Participants should be prepared to finish the event after sundown, which occurs locally at 4:54 PM. In favorite conditions, possible water sources include Squirrel Hollow Brook (Mile 4.0; Mile 13.3), a Clove Creek tributary on Fishkill Ridge (Mile 7.2), and the outlet of Beacon Reservoir (Mile 11). The water retrieved from these sources must be treated before use.
