Bear Mountain
Time & Location
About the Event
Difficulty: Locally moderate-to-hard, overall moderate
Distance: 4.2 miles
Time: 3 hours
Conquer a 1,000-ft climb and catch views of Dunderberg Mountain , Iona Island , Hessian Lake , Anthony's Nose, and of course,
the Bear Mountain Bridge , just to name a few. Enjoy views from all sides of the mountain, especially sweeping from 1,283 feet up! We'll stop by the Perkins Memorial Tower before we hit the newly rehabilitated Appalachian Trail!
Driven by money and land donations from several people (notably the Harriman Family), Bear Mountain State Park was established in 1913. The popularity of the new state park was the driving force behind the Bear Mountain Bridge and the Bear Mountain Inn. This is a mountain that needs no introduction or embellishment!
Sturdy footwear and appropriate outdoor attire required. Be prepared for winter conditions and colder temperatures. Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks. We will hike rain or shine barring extraordinarily dangerous conditions such as lightning, hurricane, etc.
