Mount Beacon

Distance: 4.6 miles/1500 ft gain

Time: 4 hours 

[MODERATE] Visit ruins of an old Casino, with views of the Hudson Valley, Shawangunks, and Catskills from its foundation. This will be followed by an ascent to the highest elevation in the entire Highlands region, marked by the famous Beacon Fire Tower and its 360-degree views. This route makes a steep climb up a very steep trail with some switchbacks. This section ends at the Casino overlook, with gradual elevation gain thereafter to the Beacon Fire Tower. We will descend down the same steep section to return to our vehicles in the afternoon, where loose rocks and dirt will become a factor.
