About the Event
Distance: 8.5 miles/2000 ft gain
Time: 4 hours walk time
[MODERATE-HARD] Schunemunk’s versatility is on full display in a route that covers the Moodna Viaduct, Megaliths, Barton Swamp, Taylor Hollow Falls, and more. A steady gain with steep portions will ascend over 1,000 feet to the crest of Schunemunk Mountain. Flat or rolling portions along the ridgeline and swamp area are separated by quick elevation changes that traverse steep slabs and ledges, where ice may be a significant factor depending on conditions. Crossing Dark Hollow Brook may be challenging during high water. Schunemunk Mountain is popular with hunters in-season.
