About the Event

Difficulty: Hard

Distance: Approx. 10 miles

Time: 5 hours

Wittenberg and Cornell Mountains are members of the Burroughs Range of the Catskill Mountains, a range that also includes Slide Mountain. In higher elevations, the trail is characterized by rock chutes and scrambles, with sections that rival the great Devil’s Path. Wittenberg features a sizeable ledge near its peak that offers unparalleled views of Ashokan Reservoir, Ashokan High Point, Samuel’s Point, the aforementioned Devil’s Path and more. Even deeper into the woods lies the Cornell Crack, a demanding scramble that leads to a view back towards Wittenberg and other Catskills. All-in-all, hikers will be well-compensated for their efforts, which include over 2,700 feet of elevation gain.

Sturdy footwear and appropriate outdoor attire required. Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks. We will hike rain or shine barring extraordinarily dangerous conditions such as lightning, hurricane, blizzard etc.
